Dynamical Monte Carlo Study of Equilibrium Polymers (II): Effects of High Density and Ring Formation

چکیده
An off-lattice Monte Carlo algorithm for solutions of equilibrium polymers (EP) is proposed. At low and moderate densities this is shown to reproduce faithfully the (static) properties found recently for flexible linear EP using a lattice model [1]. The molecular weight distribution (MWD) is well described in the dilute limit by a Schultz-Zimm distribution and becomes purely exponential in the semi-dilute limit. Additionally, very concentrated molten systems are studied. The MWD remains a pure exponential in contrast to recent claims [2]. The mean chain mass is found to increase faster with density than in the semi-dilute regime due to additional entropic interactions generated by the dense packing of spheres. We also consider systems in which the formation of rings is allowed so that both the linear chains and the rings compete for the monomers. In agreement with earlier predictions the MWD of the rings reveals a strong sin∗email:[email protected]

Introduction: Globally, the need for radiotherapy as a part of cancer management increases every year. Thus, the shielding for megavoltage radiotherapy rooms is of great importance. Materials and Methods: In the present study, 14 types of developed high-density concrete with densities ranging from 2.45 to 5.11 were simulated by using Monte Carlo method. The linear attenuation coefficient and t...

We studied equilibrium conformations of ring polymers in melt over the wide range of segment number N of up to 4096 with Monte-Carlo simulation and obtained N dependence of radius of gyration of chains R(g). The simulation model used is bond fluctuation model (BFM), where polymer segments bear excluded volume; however, the excluded volume effect vanishes at N-->infinity, and linear polymer can ...
متن کاملStatistical Geometry of Packing Defects of Lattice Chain Polymer from Enumeration and Sequential Monte Carlo Method
Voids exist in proteins as packing defects and are often associated with protein functions. We study the statistical geometry of voids in two-dimensional lattice chain polymers. We define voids as topological features and develop a simple algorithm for their detection. For short chains, void geometry is examined by enumerating all conformations. For long chains, the space of void geometry is ex...
متن کاملSimulation and theory of flexible equilibrium polymers under poor solvent conditions.
Grand canonical Monte Carlo simulation and simple statistical thermodynamic theory are used to model the aggregation and phase separation of systems of reversibly polymerizing monomers, capable of forming chains with or without the ability to cyclize into rings, with isotropic square-well attractions between nonbonded pairs of monomers. The general trend observed in simulation of chain-only sys...
متن کاملPivot-coupled grand canonical Monte Carlo method for ring simulations
A new method is presented for the simulation of an ensemble of polymer rings of variable size at fixed monomer chemical potential. Called pivot-coupled grand canonical Monte Carlo ~PC-GCMC!, it is based on the directed addition or removal of a monomer to or from a ring, coupled to the pivot of a section of the ring to maintain the ring’s continuity. Application of PC-GCMC to single, isolated ri...
